Good morning Carl, Paul:
You have come to a conclusion that is incorrect and inappropriate! I have
purchased every ER issue that contains information that is of interest to me
i.e. The Hallicrafters SR and later SX series radios.
Paul, you may not be aware of this but Carl is. If you visit the QTH
site --- "For sale swap", you will find my advertisement from six weeks ago
liquidating the instruments in my shop. I also moved my library and parts
to storage. The three issues of ER containing the SX-117 changes are now in
storage and if you have packed for a move, you know that the manuals are not
readily available --- probably at the bottom of a stack of six boxes.
If you note that I stated that I was also interested in the author it should
have been obvious that I needed more information than the original articles
presented! As I recall, one component of the series spoke to a circuit
change that corrected AGC ringing and slow attack time and the method and
instruments that he used to extract the measurements.
I received an offline query regarding IMD, MDS, and front end Q measurements
for the SX-117. I could not remember whether they were part of the series
and do not have easy access to my copies. Also, I had not done the testing
before. So I queried the reflector for content or AUTHOR if you recall!!!
If the information was not included I would have queried the reflector for
anyone who had done these measurements because I currently do not have time
to do so.
Carl, Paul, if you are genuinely concerned about the success of ER, as are
all of us. Why don’t you write articles for Ray. Expand the breadth of the
content so every issue would have information of interest that would compel
everyone to purchase every issue???
I always wonder why there are not more contributors to ER or for that matter
this reflector. Could it be that the most writers are not willing to listen
to the belligerent and denigrating comments like those that Carl directed at
Walt Maxwell --- one of the brightest antenna and distribution systems
engineers of the last 50 years? Or to me because I disagree with him?
Carl, Paul, I'll be here for your entertainment --- not going anywhere soon
A good day to you --------- Kindest regards Jim K9AXN

Very tactful and correct Carl. These days it is too easy to "share"
documentation by the internet. I don't know much about the financial status
of ER but I doubt they are getting rich off us, more likely just?managing to
break even. I see it more as a labor of love that we should support one way
or another. ?I myself just purchased a second copy of the 75A-4 Compendium
for use at a second station away from the home shack. I could have just had
my original duplicated at Kinko's, but what the heck, I needed a second
copy, ER provides it in?a nice binder, and what little I spent helps fund
what for many of us?is a source of info on classic/antique gear.

The copyrighted back? issues can be purchased thru ER. It helps keep that
small operation in business....since subscritions are what keeps it alive
and helps those of us that dont try to defeat its purpose with good content
every month.
