Looks like the plates on the Pitch control variable condenser are touching each other.I would open the pitch control and do a visual
inspection.

Subject: [Hallicrafters] SX-16 BFO

I am currently restoring an SX-16 and need some help with the BFO.

When I turn on the BFO injection, I get BFO only with the Pitch Control set with
the pointer between the 9 o'clock and 12 o'clock positions. At other points, it
is as if the BFO is turned off. Adjusting the screw in the BFO can does not
help. Yes, I did replace the two .01 paper caps inside the BFO assembly.

Here are my questions:

1. How do you align the BFO can? The manual is silent on this.

2. Do my symptoms sound like a bad Pitch Control?

As matters stand, this receiver performs pretty well, although I can see why the
FCC wanted another RF stage added.

As always, thank you for your help and advice.

                        Joe Connor
