Duane,

The silver work done by jeweler's is entirely different.  Most use a 
flame, but the melting point for silver itself is significantly lower.  
Their work usually involves Sterling Silver, i.e., .999 % pure.

Their is also silver bearing solder that was used in the old Tektronix 
535 and such series of oscilloscopes.  That particular type of solder 
was done with a good old fashioned soldering pencil/iron.
