List,

My expertise regarding this topic is as a "once upon a time" Nuclear
Grade Certified Welder.

1. It is NOT "silver soldering". It *IS* silver BRAZING. That is a
very age old misnaming of what it is. It is accomplished with an
air/acetylene torch, or an Oxygen Acetylene torch.

Neither Butane NOR Propane will achieve the necessary temperatures.

2. Whether it is Stainless Steel - OR - Galvanized steel cable, it *IS*
impregnated with a lubricant.

3. Butt splicing by silver brazing, *IF* a successful butt joint is
made, it WILL make a stiff straight section that will NOT bend without
breaking.

I'm glad that he has an alphabet soup after his name. It doesn't change
the nature, physics, or mechanical nature of the brazing process.

Ya'll have a Happy and Joyous New Year!
