Having been IN avionics, both with KING RADIO CORP, and a private company, 
plus flying and selling Cessna & Mooney aircraft, I will EXPLICTLY WARN YOU 
to NOT perform this particular repair in the manner you descibe.  Not only 
will you run afoul of the FAR's, but any such action, nearly always can come 
to grief.  We used to call the Beech Banana - "forked-tail doctor killers", 
and for good reason.  It's a great & tough aircraft, but you need to care 
for it as if your life depended on it - 'cause it does.

Find a good A&P - spend a little money, and it'll be one less thing to worry 
about when you're shooting an IFR approach to minimums.
