You may be able to "long-splice" the new cable and old one together to
pull the new one into place. This involves winding strands of each
cable into the other one and can produce a smooth, same-diameter joint
(certainly not to be trusted with the whole strength load of an intact
cable).
This link may help, but it involves rope strands crossing each other,
which may not be practical with wire rope:

You may not be able to do the overhand knots shown with metal wire.
I suggest you epoxy or glue the ends of the laid-in strands so the but
ends don't spring out and snag on the way through.
