[Hallicrafters] Repainting a transformer cover

Hi all,

I'd like to respray a power transformer cover that has surface rust. I
remember a thread a while back about not using "normal" spray paint as it
can cook but I don't recall the correct answer. Is auto engine enamel a
good option?
