Looking through old ARRL Handbooks
there were two models the SX-62 and SX-62A.
ARRL did not do a review as they viewed
the receiver as a purely SWL receiver (one of the best).
Looking at the SX-62 in the 1954 Handbook the front panel appears to be a
light gray around the tuning scale and a slightly darker gray around the
knobs. The top and upper part of the of the sides
were the lighter gray with the bottom part
of the cabinet is a darker gray very much like on the SX-71.
This is what I saw when I visited Southern Electronics in New Orleans
in 1957, They had a SX-62, SX-71, and NC-183D (boy did I want that RX) on
display.
My first receiver was the S-40B with the Hallicrafters dark gray. It had
bright green dials but the S-76 was dark gray with dark general coverage
dial and band spread and dark big S meter. Almost impossible to read the
scales without the receiver being turned on.
The big Hallicrafters multi page ad in the ARRL Handbook caused a young ham
to drool HI.
