Hi Rick, I have nice sx-117, that I just love.
Here's what I would do (in your case):

1. Contact "Hayseed Hamfest", he will either have a replacement cap in stock or he might make you one.
2. If you choose to leave the original in place, disconnect it and place new, modern replacements under chassis.
3. Contact Ray (Editor) Electric Radio Magazine. He will sell you a couple of back issues of his WONDERFUL little magazine on simple modifications that will turn the SX-117 into an excellent radio. He is a superb engineer.

PS Caps should NOT get hot. They must have dried out. New ones are much more efficient.....

Sorry i forgot to mention the can holds  1 60mfd at 250volts  2x..80mfd at 250 volts .
