This thread is cross-posted so I have no idea of who
is asking about the S-76 in the Allied catalogue. I happen
to have this catalogue.
What I suspect is that the catalogue illustration is of
a prototype or even a mock-up to get photos out in time for
finalizing the catalogue layout. The design illustrated is
IMO much more elegant than the production version, which
looks like a big meter just tacked onto a cabinet. S-76's
are not too rare but I suspect the one shown in the
catalogue never left the factory. The illustration is too
small to decide if its a drawing or a photo and also many,
if not most, of the illustrations of the time are heavily
retouched making it even harder to tell what you are seeing.
We all know that Hallicrafters made many changes in
design during production so perhaps this is not too
surprising.
