[Hallicrafters] S-40B serial number question

Most Hallicrafters receivers of that era had the serial numbers on a small  
rectangular tag glued to the rear chassis apron. Tons of them eventually 
flaked  off due to age breakdown of the glue and were unfortunately lost.  I 
have  not heard of an instance where the serial was engraved on the chassis, 
although  some numbers were which I believe were run numbers or part 
numbers.   Possibly someone will correct me on that.
