There is prob no sensor. Let it run without tape for 20 minutes or so. The capstan s are probably  bronze hushed and need a drop off light oil. Maybe the motor as well. Richy N2ZD

Well... everything works on this deck, but the play starts then bogs down
and stops. Play sounds slow or the tape is wound backwards, should try Andy
Williams' "Moon River" instead of "Swan Lake." Fast forward, rewind, and
play w/o the reels on work fine and fast forward and rewind work fine with
the reels on but w/o the tape threaded past the heads - is there a sensor
problem or is it just a matter of belts? Seems odd since the supply reel
shaft has what seems good resistance to finger pressure, same with the
take-up side, tho it is weaker.

Also - anyway to improve AM reception on an SX-16 ad SX-28, crappy here in
Ventura to begin with unless on the roof. I use a 70 foot single wire
antenna.
