[Hallicrafters] Insert/Extract Tool use - off subject.

Off subject but maybe someone can help.  I'm trying to remove pins from a King aircraft GPS connector.  I have the Insert/Extract tool recommended.  The Tool has a white section and a red section (it pulls apart) with slightly different ends.  Both ends slip over the pin in the connector but the pin does not want to come out when I extract the Tool.  Do I push the extractor Tool in and then push with a wire at the other end or what?  Is the White end for extraction and the Red end for insertion (or vice-aversa)?  Thanks in advance for help.
