Actually this could be SX-88 related because there are many T-12s and T-13s
out there with their cans pulled away from the mounting lugs which
happens when the chassis is stood up on its side (unstable); accidentally bump it
and without warning it falls and rolls over and snaps the cans off.
You will need nickel plated brass rivets and the size I use most is .125
diameter with a .215 head and .187 length. I use a model 915-1 hand operated
rivet press from Chicago Rivet Co. They're very high quality and while new
ones are not exactly inexpensive, they do turn up on eBay occasionally and
bargains can sometimes be had. Chicago Rivet also makes smaller models like
the 915-3 made especially for Lionel to service model trains. Even the
tooling for the 915-3 (clinchers and anvils) for setting different styles and
sizes of rivets has Lionel part numbers. Chicago Rivet Co. rivets and
riveters are very popular with the model train hobbyists because they are very
precise at installing small rivets but there are other less expensive
competing brands (read cheaper) on the market also for hobby use but I don't
know how good they are. Just do a search on model train riveters and everything
you need will come up.

Need to drill out some rivets on some gear but would like to use the same
kind of rivet when I put the gear back together.
Hence POP rivets will not do the job. What kind of rivets do I need, what
tools and where might I get them at a reasonable price ?
(both solid and tubular rivets).
