Interesting thread on collecting; not at easy adventure in an island 100 by
35 miles but over the years quite a few boatanchors have come to the shack.
Some BAs have stayed and some have passed into good hands. I cannot
complain, at least 7 R390s As and nonAs have been here with two R392s. Add
to that a R388, 75A4, National HRO 60, 5T, RAS5 etc. When I thought that I
would never see a TMC GPR90, one crops up in front of me at a thrift shop.
Hallicrafters, I cannot complain, an SX28 made its way here and, in the same
shop where I found the GPR90, an R12 speaker cabinet was found under a heap
of junk. Who knows, maybe someone here has an SX88 hidden in a closet or a
store room. My collection is not as big as it was some years ago but it
keeps evolving.
About heirs inheriting all this collection, my only son, now 27 an MD and
immersed in computers like all in his generation, has shown no interest but
I have a promise that he will keep some things for my yet to be grandkids.
Who knows, they say that these interests sometimes skip a generation. In the
meantime I keep enjoying the old electromechanical wonders that we call
boatanchors. The guys who designed these wonders were geniuses who had to
create complex equipment from almost nothing.
