Where ya been, Mike? (o: They've been falling like a stone for the
last couple years. Multiple examples on ebay that didn't meet reserve
despite multiple listings and numerous private sales for far less that
the collector-published prices of a few years back.
Same thing is happening with Collins and other gear, just not as fast
as the SX-88. Most folks have gotten what they want by now, fewer
folks looking and even fewer coming behind us. You'll still see the
occasional high price realized on clean/scarce units, but the crazy
days of six to ten years ago are indeed the big exception today. And
more stuff is hitting the market as many of the "investors" scurry to
recover their investments. More are realizing that old radios really
weren't a great long term investment after all.
It's a good time to be a user of this old gear, for sure! Between our
European-style economy and lower demand, prices and supply are solidly
on the buyer's side.
