Hi Guys (and Gals)!!!
I've had really good success with Murphy's Oil Soap. The stuff in
the spray bottle. Gets the dirt, cigarette smoke, grease, etc and
leaves the stuff behind that we want there. I usually stand the chassis
on end and let it run down and off as well. I rinse with distilled
water and dry with a hair dryer (not to be confused with a HEAT GUN!).
I've done this to Hammarlund's, Heathkit's, Hallicrafters, Drake's,
Collins, Eldico's, and a good many antique radios and haven't screwed
anything up yet. Got at least 30 years of doing the same thing and
haven't lost anything yet.
