A bowl of cut up apples in a garbage bag with the offending item will do the
same thing in 3-4 days. A used car dealer trick,

Wipe the covers inside and out down with Windex or other cleaner, not 409.
Leave the covers off and put it in a garbage bag with a dryer sheet or two
of your choice and leave in a warm place for a couple weeks.
