Had both, the speaker and receiver. The speaker was definitely the
better of the two. The only good thing on the receiver was the
polished tuning knob. It was a big, empty box with a marginal receiver
that could've easily fit into a cabinet one third the size. No doubt
that RME was on its way out the door then. Had the 6900 been a good
receiver, more would have been made due to demand.

As far as SSB sound and performance, I suspect that in a side-by-side
comparison with the SX-115, the SX-115 would win without even being
plugged in.

I heartily agree, my SX-115 is a real nice radio. Heck a SX-101 is far 
better than a 6900.
