Looked at the schematic on BAMA ,looks like some sort of 'negative feedback' .The wire from the gird is also connected to the headphone jack ,and provides signal to the headphones.

Been messing with this junk for most 60 years and finally came onto one that’s
ot me up a stump.
ase in point: Hallicrafters 8R40, the one with the selenium rectumfriers.
omebody was there afore me. I am just cleaning up the mess.
eplaced the selenium's with silicone, added a 200 ohm series resistor to
ring voltages down
o livable levels. Got the speaker wiring straightened out. Get some squeals
ow.
hat throws me, there is a wire shown on the schematic going from the
ontrol
rid of the 6F6 to the lower side of the utput transformer.
ire is also in the radio.
hat is it's function? Looks like trouble to me.
ook one end loose, still squeals.
t's beer:30 so will worry about it later.
Thanx
