"all those little voltage spikes might add up to something! "Now, that
would be," he said, grinning,
> "real political power!"
They actually do something like that with thermocouples* which only generate
a very small voltage. A LOT of these dissimilar metal junctions are placed
so that one end in inside a small chamber fired with propane or other heat
generating source. The cumulative series voltages add up to a useful amount
of energy.

*Thermocouples consist of two dissimilar metals that generate a voltage when
heated above ambient. This is a very old method of measuring temperature.
For example, a type J thermocouple junction of iron & constantan (industry
coded red & white wire) will generate a very stable and predictable 30 mV
when heated to about 1000 degree F. Many different types of
thermocouplesare produced from different metals, each with a different
useful temperature range and output voltage. They also have a distinct
color coded for the wire and connector. The type J uses a black connector
Another popular one is the type K with the yellow two wire connector seen on
some measuring instruments that include a temperature readout. The wires of
the type K are actually two different alloys of "Chromel & Alumel"
(Spelling might be a tad off though).
