[Hallicrafters] Piesoelectric effect case in point.

I personally think you guys are all nuts. I have been a ham for 57 years
and have restored a lot of radios and have NEVER experienced any of this BS
floating around on this reflector regarding piesoelectric effect.

For a bunch of newbies on here that want to fix up some old tube type gear
and want to have fun using it, don't listen to this BS! Replace larger
paper caps, usually in audio circuits, with modern yellow mylar type caps.
Replace postage stamp micas and tubular micas with modern ruby color silver
micas. In RF circuits, replace bypass caps with disc ceramics. Of course
we are talking replacements with proper voltage ratings. (In some RF
circuits, current capability is important too). Also make sure to replace
electrolytics, very important to do this.

Same with tubes. Forget this audio fool BS. Most any good tube of the
correct number will work, GREAT, in your boatanchor rig.

Have fun restoring your radio and then enjoy using it and leave these guys
who enjoy constant misery and enjoy "one upmanship" play their silly games
among themselves. 99% of what they are talking about will never be
experienced by you.
