On the money!! I usually clean out and flush the bronze bushings and then use a clock oil with the needle tip to apply. I had some problems with a preselector on one of my Halli's which use a friction setup on the shaft, the bushings were loaded with dried grease and filings. once I cleaned it and relubed it, it worked FB..

Hi Bob:

For the bearings in a tuning capacitor, the bronze gears, and bushings in
any of these radios ---- USE ONLY SYNTHETIC CLOCK OIL! It is refined with
short string molecules and does not dry out or oxidize. If you use grease
it will drag debris and dust into the gear or bearing whereas clock oil will
drive it out. You can buy clock and watch oil at most clock shops or go to
your local hobby shop and buy an ounce of the oil that is used to pickle the
two and four stroke engines: it is the same as clock oil. The only
difference between clock and watch oil is the viscosity. Clock oil is used
to lub the gear train parts and watch oil can be used to lubricate meter
movements as it is very light.

The use of grease specifically in tuning cap ball bearings comes to no good
end. It will eventually bind enough to overwhelm the anti backlash gears.

Kindest regards Jim K9AXN

What type of grease is used to lubricate the shaft bearings on tuning
capacitors? Also what is the best way to clean between the plates of the
tuning cap? The problem I am having is scratchy audio as the radio is tuned.
