Folks,
I found a couple new pots locally and made shaft extensions. Actually used 2.5
watt units slightly larger than the original. All is right with the world (so
to speak.) I am getting about 35 db opposite carrier rejection as measured on my
receiver and the carrier null is smooth and essentially zero on the transmitter
meter.
I don't know the reason they failed, but disassembly of both units showed the
carbon traces were completely destroyed over about 1/3 of the circumference. I
don't know why cathode voltages would cause this.
Anyway, time to button it up and see what on-the-air reports are like.
73,
Jack
