[Hallicrafters] SX-117 Audio has too many lows

Good evening Lee:
Are the lows present in all modes and bandwidths? Does the notch filter
change help/hinder when set high/low? Is there a circular variable ceramic
trimmer soldered to the VFO front gang --- looking for wiring level? Are
C108, C109, C110, and C111 on the selectivity switch the original paper
caps? Does it look like the radio has been re-caped? I have yet to hear an
SX-117 that did not favor the highs unless my ancient ears are playing
tricks on me. Good luck Lee that’s a great radio. Kindest regards Jim

Hi everyone,
I have a beautiful SX-117 that hears super!
The audio however seems to have way too much lows in it and no highs.
Kind of muddy sounding.
I tried two different HAllicrafters speakers that are in the
PS150-120....same sounds.
It is much better with the Halli R-47, small desk speaker

I plan to look at this tommorrow to start checking to see what's going
on...
Any ideas of what could cause this?

Thanks & 73,
Lee, KC9CDT
