[Hallicrafters] Hallicrafters SX-62 Alignment

Is there an alternate way to align the crystal in a Hallicrafters SX-62?  The instructions say to turn S-10 while rocking the signal generator. My signal generator is controlled by push button input and it does not allow rocking back and forth.  Also should the radio be on AM or CW.  The step before says to set the BFO. It does not say to leave it on CW or go back to AM.
