[Hallicrafters] S-40A Tuning Capacitor Question

When I got my S-40A I discovered the band spread part of
the tuning capacitor ran in reverse. In order to get the
dial to run the right way it was necessary to cross over the
dial string. I thought that someone had reversed the
position of the stop peg perhaps not understanding that the
band spread on most Hallicrafters receivers starts at zero.
In any case I reversed it so that it runs righ. However I
now wonder if it didn't come from the factory that way.
There must be quite a few S-40 and S-40A's out there and I
wonder if others have the reversed capacitor section. I also
wonder what the range of the band spread dial is. On mine,
at least after reversing the plates, it stops at 97, I think
it may have gone to 100 with the original arrangement. My
S-20R, which is definitely original, only goes to 93. I
wonder if this is typical.
