[Hallicrafters] Best RX?

Bob - This didn't answer the question.

The entire SX-101 series is by itself. "Perhaps" there is some
comparison to the SX-28.

The SX-111 is by itself. I would estimate "fair" to "sort of okay".
I've run it as part of a station, won't say there was any thrill.

The SX-101 varies as to whether there is BCST band coverage, all band
coverage, or HAM Only coverage. These begin as the SX-101, move to the
SX-101A, then begins the Mark I, Mark II, and finally the Mark III.

*IF* they are properly tuned and maintained they are a pretty darn GOOD
receivers. The only drawback to the series, is the footprint and weight.

However I'd rather have ANY of the SX-101s over any of the receivers
you've mentioned in your question of "best".

It becomes "subjective", yet there is perhaps "some' agreement amongst
the masses.
