Okay, I cannot resist.
This is Larry Young in Ventura, CA - I am an occasional participant here and
owner of a Hallicrafters SX-16 that was my dad's. In 1972 I traded my second
car a 1965 Nova Special coupe (rare) with a 283 V8 on a 67 Nova SS 327/275
coupe with the Powerglide, power steering, power brakes, air-conditioning,
and bucket seats but no front disks. I still have the 99% original car after
thirty-eight years. I used to call it my poor man's Corvette. There are few
things as fine as the sound of a finally tuned 327, well maybe a ford 289,
the Shelby 427 was too much - am I dating myself?
Larry

Got a new yearend/leftover 64 Stingray roadster 327 when I got home from
Fort Sill in early 1965, traded in my 1960 MGA for it (I had driven the MGA
from Fort Sill OK to NY in the winter. Went from 75 degree sunny days when I
left Sill to 20 degrees and several feet of snow by the time I reached NY).
Couple years later traded the 64 Stingray in for a new 396 Stingray
roadster. Impalas and GTO's may have been the muscle cars, but
'vettes...!!!!! Soon went into imports, traded the 396 in on an E-type Jag
roadster (had/still have a thing for roadsters) and many other cars that I
wish I hadn't let go. Still keep some of the older fun cars around, but
nothing American. Out in the garage/storage are two BMW's (a 2002 bought
while in Germany and shipped home and a 633Csi), 1964 MGB, 1957 AC Ace
(roadster), 1957 AC Aceca Bristol (Coupe) and several "everyday driver"
cars, Nissan 350Z, Mitsubishi Eclipse GS and my favorite of all, my new Mini
Cooper S, most
car fun I've had since my euro-spec BMW 2002.
Wife says I went thru my midlife crisis 35 years ago and haven't got over it
yet.
OK, where's the Boatanchor relevance to all this? While I had the 327 and
396 Stingrays, I also had a '57 Chevy (convertible of course, kind'a a 6
seater roadster) that had a Hallicrafters SR-500 Tornado installed. I later
replaced the Tornado with a Collins KWM-2A. 57 Chevy is gone (as are the
'vettes') but at least I still have the radios.

I had one of those for a short time in the late 70's; 1963 409, single 4bbl
and 4spd ragtop. Ive had a total of 9 63-64 Impalas. Also bought a new 64
GTO convertible, 389, tripower, 4spd, 4.10 posi rear; after a little work it
ate 409's (-; The early GTO actually was THE musle car of that era, light
compact body and big engine while the Impala and other full size models were
lead sleds. The Chevelle and Nova didnt get a 396 until 66.
Now all I have for that model is a 68 Impala convertible, 396 SS.
