The ARRL is getting some very impressive results with their on-line
auctions. Currently the proceeds of all sales are strictly for the
benefit of the ARRL as far as I know. Anybody else think the League
should consider going into the Internet auction business full-time and
open it up to the general membership for the purpose of buying and
selling all types of ham radio equipment ? This might help generate new
or increased interest in the ARRL and add new members and auction fees
might be a good way for the ARRL to increase finances instead of
depending upon sales of League publications and contributions from the
equipment manufacturers. Currently eBay is the dominate force in
Internet auctions and no one has ever been able to successfully
challenge them but the ARRL's high credibility and well established
name recognition in the radio hobby might place them in a unique
position to be able to pull it off at least for radio equipment
auctions. Would the league's 403(c) tax exempt status prevent it and be
impossible to work around? What say you?
Regards, Greg
