Am starting replacement of the BB paper caps and, aside from the larger
mail order companies, would appreciate input where you buy your axial caps
at a reasonable cost.
Joe,
Since I do so much of this stuff, I've found a good source who sells in
bulk, and I buy from him. This is Bob at _http://www.radioantiques.com_
(http://www.radioantiques.com) I buy only the 630 V caps as they are much
smaller than the originals anyway, and are universal replacements. Make me a list
of what you need, and if I have it in my stock, it's yours for postage.
(plus a few feet of insulated sleeving) Also, I don't know without looking it
up how similar the SX-100 is to the SX-110, but I worked with a guy via
E-mail to rebuild an SX-110, and saved all the exchanges. I did this because
I went through the schematic and identified every resistor that would be
stressed if the bypass associated with it were leaky or shorted, and had him
test every one while replacing the cap. Saves a lot of grief later. If you
want this information you are welcome to it, it's not a big file. You may
find it interesting for other reasons, reading along as a guy who admits
he's in unknown territory, gradually gains confidence and ultimately succeeds
in restoring his first boatanchor. :-)
Send your capacitor list to _kb9tmy at arrl.net_ (mailto:kb9tmy at arrl.net)
Anything I don't have you can get from Bob.
Regards,
Doug Moore
