On my S-76s and other rigs where there is the possibility of knob scratch  
damage , I have moved the knobs out on the shafts about 1/8th of an inch. 
The  distance is not critical, but take any shaft play into consideration when 
you  move the knobs. Be aware that many Hallicrafters sets and some others 
like  Collins use Bristol set screws. If your Allen wrench doesn't fit, it 
is  more than likely a Bristol. Bristol wrench sets are available from many 
tool  suppliers and on some internet sites. If you work with this gear and 
don't have  a set of Bristols, they should be at the top of your gotta have 
list. They  are not expensive but the damage one can due by trying to force a 
Bristol set  screw with an Allen head wrench is!
