Sounds like relatively minor damage. AF gain knob probably pushed against the front panel, skirt rubbing making it hard to turn. Will require a Bristol type wrench to adjust. It will scratch the paint if turned before fixing. Broken fuse holder is an easy fix.
I had eight of these a while back (down to three now) and traveled to pick up every one. Have shipped SX-88's to Denver, Los Angeles, and more recently to Seattle with no problems but they do require certain precautions:

While I do ship them out I never have them shipped in here. Just started on serial number 400 and it will be for sale when finished.
Regards, Greg

Subject: [Hallicrafters] Advice Needed Please
Hello,
A friend of mine just took delivery of a nice SX-88.
Unfortunately, the radio sustained some damage during shipment:
1. The fuse holder has been pushed inside the chassis.
2. The volume control is very hard to turn.
No other physical damage has been noticed outside, or
nside the radio. Of course, the radio has not been
owered on.
UPS is the carrier. They want a repair estimate.
QTH is in the Newark, NJ area.
Who/where is there within a reasonable driving distance,
apable of diagnosing and repairing an SX-88?
Thank you,
Bruce WA8TNC
