Other sellers offering low-cost DMMs include:

http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/72-7940
Max 300 VDC, but includes a square wave audio generator (handing for
quick audio testing, etc) and measures common batteries under load.
Now on sale for $3.99

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=390-730
500VDC range, sometimes goes on sale for lower price as well.

Both companies have a range of other inexpensive Chinese-made private
label test equipment products as well, including Velleman, Tripplett,
and other brands. But as Tom points out, just having a 3 1/2 digit
display doesn't have anything to do with baseline accuracy - these
little meters are handy to have around, but in general you get what you
pay for. Still, if our Elmers from 30-40 years ago could see the kind
of test gear we can buy today - they'd be amazed!
