Hello, everyone. I tried to post earlier, but it didn't go through due to
an e-mail problem. I am posting a message about Duane Fischer's health
with the kind permission of his daughter, Shelly Fischer Carpenter.

If anyone has been wondering why they have not heard from W8DBF, or why he
has been absent from the nets, it is due to serious health problems that
caught up with him over the holidays. Duane has been suffering from
severe kidney problems, and has also been found to have severe type 1
(insulin-dependent) diabetes. Shelly tells me that he was found
unconscious in his house, and had to be hospitaliized. At this writing,
he is in critical condition, although he has had some improvement. Shelly
informs me that Duane is not well enough to live on his own anymore, and
will require daily kidney dialysis for the foreseeable future. Once Duane
is stronger, he will need to move into a nursing home or assisted living
facility. Your prayers will be appreciated, of course. If you would like
to send your wishes to Duane, you can do so through his daughter. Shelly
Fischer Carpenter, Duane's daughter, may be reached through her Facebook
account at:

Shelly also asked me for help in reaching Jim Thayer, W5JT (formerly
K9JLT). This is at her father's request, since Duane would like Jim's
help to keep the nets going, now that W8DBF can no longer do them. Jim,
if you are on here, please get in touch with me and I will help you get in
touch with Shelly. Also, if anyone here is in touch with Jim, please tell
him to get in touch directly with me at malamb at cumbredx.net.

Again, your prayers for Duane will be very much appreciated by his family,
and thanks to him for his contributions to the radio hobby. I will keep
everyone posted as events warrant, and you can also check Shelly Fischer
Carpenter's Facebook page for news.

Thanks to everyone and 73--
