Now recapped, my SX100 works very well. Problem left is a mechanical one. The
problem is in the steel band spread dial "cord"/cable.
There is no slack in the band spread dial cord/cable when tuning from low
frequency to high frequency end of dial. However, when starting to tune from
high frequency to low frequency there is an immediate SLACK that develops in the
steel dial cord/cable. This makes tuning SSB very SLOPPY. The bandspread tunes
SSB well when turning the bandspread knob upward in frequency and the slop is
there when tuning downward in frequency. This looseness was observed when tuning
down in freq because of the sloppy tuning that makes bringing in a SSB clearly
very difficult.
My request is whether anyone has experienced looseness in the metal bandspread
dial cord/cable in the SX100. If so how did you tighten it up to remove the
slack?
If you have time and don't mind and if you have an SX 100, would you please look
at your metal bandspread dial cord/cable and see if you can figure out how to
snug up the dial cord/cable without destroying it. This slack problem needs to
be eliminated so I can complete the refurbishing of my receiver and get it back
into the cabinet and off the bench. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and 73, John, K5PGW
