That sounds about right as they are attempting to use a 6CB6 sharp cutoff 
tube as the RF amp. It sure shut down that stage but the IF amp is still 
conducting and the pumping clipping action isnt very good for IMD.

 The 101A was much improved with a 6DC6 and a revised AGC
