The SX-101 transformer is very similar in appearance to the SX-28 transformer. Right off the top of my head, I seem to recall that the current rating of its high voltage winding is about 30 to 40 milliamps too light. The 101 has single ended audio out, not anywhere near the power requirement of a pair of 6V6s.
But it wouldn't hurt to scope the diagram and get a better feel for the current requirement of the 101 (I seriously doubt you'll find the transformer specs in that manual).
The S-27 transformer is a little too light as well. I think it's only good for about 110 mils. It MIGHT be that a transformer from a mil-spec RBK series radio would be just about adequate as I would be pretty certain it has a higher spec, for 24/7 duty.
Yes, there are junkers out in Radioland; but around here they don't show up often. At least, not often without a receiver attached. Find one and let Gary rewind it if necessary. Even if it works, I'd have it tested and tanked anyway. Halli transformers of that era weren't the best, and they are liable to get no better with age.
