"Old" TV transformers???

I'm sorry to say that this may not be a reasonable source for boatanchor
power transformers.

I have an "old" TV that was made almost 40 years ago and the only high
voltage in it is on the CRT. This situation is only exaggerated by the
transition to digital TV. The chances of finding a tube type TV chassis are
extremely slim and if attempted, must start at the local landfill.

Personally, I think you'd have much better luck poking around your local
hamfest junque boxes. Unfortunately, lots of us "old-timers" are dying off,
but fortunately for the few remaining tube radio enthusiasts the contents of
the SK's shack just might show up at the fest. Providing of course, the
family doesn't simply toss it all out once the main equipment is disposed
of.

A somewhat more expensive solution, but much more reliable one, is that
there are several reputable transformer re-winding services out there. I
might add that if your dead boatanchor has true nostalgia value to you,
doesn't it make sense to replace that antique blown transformer with one
that eliminates the potential for more problems due to age?
