Talk to your local avionics PROFESSIONAL.  Depending on how much the unit 
weighs, where it's mounted, and where the antenna is to be, it MAY require a 
modification to the weight-and balance placard for the aircraft, and most 
assuredly is required to be noted in the aircraft's maint. log.  You might 
also contact the folks at GARMIN in Olathe, KS... many of the guys who began 
that company are fomer KING RADIO CORP engineers and can tell you EXACTLY 
what's needed and why.
