Condition really affects pricing on this one. If the chassis is clean,
meaning no rust (70 years of accumulated dust and grime is expected, however)
with no extra unauthorized holes or modifications added and the cabinet
still has good original paint the price is good, especially with that PM-23
speaker. And as Carl mentioned much more so if the PM-23 has the deco "h" on
the front. If it still has its original wax paper capacitors you might want
to seriously think about replacing them before you place it into service.
Things to look for: if it still has its original rubber power cord and
paper "Important" tag fastened to the bottom these are good signs it has not
been passed around a lot. Another thing to look at is the black S-meter
housing. They were made of pressed brass and due to distributed stress from the
stamping operation they are often found now split and spread out like
petals on a tulip but not always; you are fortunate if yours is still OK.
The SX-24 was introduced in 1939 as a serious step up from the S-20R and it
was a big improvement with its better mechanical construction, S-meter and
a crystal filter for improved selectivity. SX-24 had one RF stage and
single ended audio output but none-the-less performance was still very good on
all but the highest band. Model SX-25 was introduced one year later in 1940
having a similar physical appearance but with two stages of RF and
push-pull audio output.
