I haven't owned an aircraft in decades. However, I always wanted a Cessna 170. Before obtaining N5572E I had only flown tail draggers so a 170 wouldn't be any problem to fly. Supposedly the 170 is a 4-place aircraft but more like 2 adults and 2 small children!

The fellow that I purchased the aircraft from was the director of civilian aircraft sales at Collins Radio. He also was an instructor. He sat in the right hand seat while I flew "touch and goes" at Addison Airport. After the second set he turned to me and said "you have been flying tail draggers, haven't you". That was because I "floated" the aircraft down with the nose high and didn't let the nose wheel down until after the main wheels were on the ground. It seems that quite a few pilots "bang" the nose gear first before the main gear is on the ground. He then told me to just continue to land like I was doing because it was MUCH easier on the landing gear.

I learned to fly on a Cessna L-19 that belonged to a Boy Scouts Air Explorer group in northwestern Indiana. The L-19 definitely was a "tail dragger".
