[Hallicrafters] The Favorite RX Of Presidents And Queens?

Hi All,

Former President JFK loved his Hallicrafters SX-62. So much that he had one
installed aboard Air Force #1.

I wonder what became of it, and its twin? In case some of you slept through
that decade, Air Force #1 has an almost identical twin. Which raises another
question - how it be called an identical twin when it is not identical?

The former Queen Elizabeth also had a love affair going on with a
Hallicrafters! It too was the awesome sounding SX-62 with the R-42 bass
reflex enclosure. She had it aboard the HMS Queen Elizabeth. I do not know
the number for this particular QE, but I preclude it was the one born before
QE#2! She had a rack mount version, whereas JFK had one with a case.

I had a chance to purchase the HMS unit through an attorney in Canada. He
purchased it somewhere after it was removed from the QE#1. Unfortunately,
some other Ham in the Midland, Michigan area got his cash to Canada faster
then I could, and he now owns it.

I have no idea what else of Hallicrafters might have once graced the cars,
planes, trains, pleasure cabin cruisers etc. of our former Presidents, or
leaders of other countries, but perhaps some of you do know of other "real"
glow in the dark tales you can tell us?
