Hi, for what it's worth, the black inside and out is the best. Look at
the very late Collins 75A-4s. They have the shields (IERC?) with the
inner contact material.
Having said that, I polish all my tube shields with a bench grinder
mounted buffing wheel. I use 'white' compound which leaves them looking
like chrome. However, I always:
1. paint the interior of the shields with flat black.
2. run EVERY tube radio with a silent muffin fan somewhere in it. My
R390A has two....

I learned this a looong time ago when I laid my bare arm on my beloved
Drake TR-6, which had been on all day (19 tubes in that little box).....
Since my A-4 is one of the first, I love the look of the polished
shields. With the combo of the black (inside) shields, and the fan, the
A-4 can run 24/7 and it barely gets above room temperature. Cool, eh???
Get it? ha ha

have fun!!

Let me throw out an idea here and see how many people can shoot it
down.
Polishing tube shields might not be the best idea for heat transfer
and tube cooling. What about using something like gun bluing to obtain
a deep blue or black color which would improve radiation.

Standing by for the flames.

but
might there be something better? I'll be using it on my SX-101 MK III &
HT-32A.
