One thing that people seem to forget is that over 50 or 60 years the paint on even the best examples fades and the colors are no where near as "bright" as they were when the unit was originally shipped. Therefore, when repainted the receiver will definitely "scream" at you because it looks new.
I have found that the original color of the cabinet can often be found on the inside of the cabinet where the paint has been in contact with the chassis. In this location the paint is less affected by sunlight, by air pollution, and so forth. That color is often very different from the outside of the cabinet which has been exposed to "the elements" for decades. This "not exposed to the elements" location is where I usually have the paint color "computer matched" because it is going to be the most accurate.
