You've got bad SILVER MICA caps inside the IF transformer which is a very
common problem with the SX-42/43 rcvrs.Once you replace 'em with new ones
you won't have any problems with the alignment.I did this on quite a few
SX-42's .

I am having trouble diagnosing a problem with a SX-43. The radio aligns
OK except the secondary of the detector transformer which will not cross
zero. It stays on the negative side when you tune it. I have tried
everything I can think of, including different 6AL5 and the third IF tube
6SH6, replaced all the paper caps in the radio, measured all of the
resistors in the circuit. Checked all the windings for continuity. Pulled
the transformer and replaced the 22 pfd cap across the secondary. The
primary peaks OK. I did notice the grid voltage on the 3rd IF tube is
about 2 volts when the book says 0 volts. I tried 2 other tubes with the
same results. Can anyone offer any suggestions? I doubt if it is the
problem but I am out of ideas, so I am Iooking for a 10.7 mc ratio
detector transformer. Would prefer one from a Hallicrafters SX-42 or
SX-43, but will consider any. My bad one is part number 50C208. Thank
you.
