Hi Les:
If memory serves me correctly --- The later models of the HT-40 had an over
modulation detector on the front panel which was a neon indicator. The
original owner may have added the circuit --- but why under the chassis???

Good evening folks,
I have a question about the HT-40. I have just purchased one and
the seller wrote me the following:
"The transmitter lost power after a few dits and dahs. The tubes all check
out 100% and no pooped caps. I traced it to a small neon bulb under the
chasis that they use as a regulator. One of the hair-thin leads broke at
the bulb. I tryed to solder, but no go. You will see this bulb in the
wiring sk and parts list. You would need to replace it. Very small $ item.
Prior to that it had a good 45 watts out on cw."
I don't have the radio yet but I'd like to get the replacement part as soon
as possible.
I can't seem to find a parts list for the HT-40. Does anyone have an idea
as to what the bulb is that he is referring to? I don't believe it is one of
the two LEDs on the front but I just don't know. The HT-40 was my first rig
as a teenager and now that I've turned 60, I'm trying to recreate my old
station. I don't remember seeing a bulb under the chassis but then I was
really looking back then.
If anyone has a part number and/or a source for these bulbs, I would really
appreciate the information.
Thank you,
Les Hock
