Hello and Happy New Year;
My SX-100 has/had considerable dial backlash, using the bandspread dial, when I was tuning the amateur bands. I especially noticed this on CW signals.
I pulled the front face and re-strung the dial using dial cord. Big mistake as there was more backlash. At a craft store, yesterday I found stainless steel, stranded wire used for making beads of all things. Along with that you can buy these tiny wire clamps that use one set screw called "scrimps". You can also buy tiny little brass tubes that you "crimp" but the "scrimps" allow for adjusting. This worked out very well in that I got a nice tight dial set up but I still have some minor dial backlash when tuning.
Has anyone else run across this and are there any suggestions for eliminating the backlash? I have a feeling that by design, there is always going to be some......
