Rather than rip up your SX-96 -- a great receiver, by the way -- why not just look on eVilbay for a replacement Stancor, Thordarson or Triad with similar ratings?

More than likely the SX-96 transformer has a "brittle leads" issue.  It'd be fine, unless you messed with it.

Yeah, a replacement isn't "original" but as long as it does the job, who cares?  And you might even be able to put the Halli "bell" on top of the original and no one would know the difference, hmm....
