[Hallicrafters] SX-88 Thread: Continue or Die?

Greg,

Since you have asked I will offer my observation.

It is my opinion that many people have offered pros and cons of the SX-88, while you have offered only pros. That is fine, as you obviously find nothing wrong with the SX-88 and consider it to be superior to all others.

I am in agreement with others who feel that there is no answer to this question, value is in the eye of the beholder, in other words whoever "be holding" something of a high perceived value, will want to extole its virtues above all others in order to justify that high perceived value.

As far as who is "winning" this argument, or offering the "best supportive information" I have only seen subjective opinions, nothing that can truly be stated as proven fact. Based on having had an SX-88 myself to use in the early sixties (it was my fathers who sold it for a ridiculously low price based on todays values) prior to my going to work for Uncle Sam in exotic and far-off places, I have to say it was a very nice radio but I certainly wouldn't buy one at anything even approaching todays prices. I am not a collector and it did nothing that my current 75A-4, SP-600 and SX-115 primary receivers can't do today.

So what is my final observation? I feel that the condescending, superior, "holier than thou" attitude expressed in your comments has been more detrimental to the continual thread of this topic than anyone elses, and that therefore it should be discontinued, with no clear winner.

73,
Paul W2EC
